Lawn mowing price calculator

Work out what a lawn costs you per cut, and what to charge per cut, per month and for the season, weekly or every two weeks. It counts the things a quick guess leaves out: drive time, a second crew member, equipment and fuel, and overhead.

1. Your numbers

The figures already filled in are examples only, so you can see how it works. They are not market rates. Replace them with your own.

minutes
Clock time from arrival to leaving: mow, trim, edge and blow.
people
Everyone on the truck is paid for the whole stop.
minutes
Average time getting to this property from the last one.
$
What an hour costs you (wage plus payroll taxes, workers' comp and benefits), not what you charge.
$
Fuel, blades, oil, repairs and wear on mowers and the truck, per stop.
% of labor
Your share of insurance, software, phones and admin, as a percentage of labor cost.
% of price
The share of the price you keep after every cost is paid. Must be below 100%.
weeks
How many weeks you mow in your area.

2. The working

Cuts per month use the average month: weekly is 52 cuts a year ÷ 12 ≈ 4.33, every two weeks is 26 ÷ 12 ≈ 2.17. Every-two-weeks service on the same lawn often takes longer per cut, because the grass is taller: if so, change the time on site and compare.

Price for the seasonprice per cut × cuts per season$1,518.75$759.38

Price per cut $50.63. Weekly $219.37 a month, every two weeks $109.69 a month.

These numbers come from your inputs. You decide the final price. Round it, check it against your local market, and think about how the property fits your routes: a lawn on a street you already mow costs less to reach.

3. Why drive time and crew size change the price

A 35-minute lawn with a 2-person crew and a 10-minute drive is 1.5 paid hours, not 35 minutes. Pricing on time on site alone would leave out more than half the labor. Tight routes are the cheapest way to lower your cost per cut: the drive time drops, but the price doesn't have to.
